This season is almost six weeks old and for the first time, I feel like I’ve made strides in both the breeding and racing sides of it. It’s been a lot of hard work mostly from scratch but this season’s born some of that fruit. So to address that part of it I will focus on the highlights on the training and racing side of each division.
Turf Sprinter: This one’s easy because three out of four of my homebred yearlings stink so far but not this filly who’s by the very nice sire As to War and out of my first turf sprinting “star” broodmare Sock It At Me who’s a daughter of Sockie and You Are Bad For Me. So far this filly’s worked nicely at 22.79/36.17 after galloping “wow”.
Turf Miler: This division’s not tough either, just two milers including my first “wow” filly who’s by Thunderous and out of my stakes winning Over and Up mare Silver Blue Bells. She’s worked 46.92 twice so far and is sorted.
Dirt Miler: This division’s a bit tougher with five wows and some very speedy winged gallopers. Though not the fastest worker, this filly by King of Kindness and out of an underachieving “wow” daughter of Big Gamble looks to be interesting. The fastest worker I think is this daughter of Chief and “star” Desert Longshot mare Kelly Girl who did 45.88 twice.
All Weather Miler: Not as dismal as usual, two winged and one HTT galloper. Stakes winning Glimmer of Ice produced this colt by Start Sizzling.
Turf Router: I like this colt by Stone in the Sand and out of Sexy Feat who’s by Feat worked 58.88 and 1:24.37 so far. Two “Wows” and some nice wings.
Dirt Router: This division shocked this year with two wows and one scary good, this filly by sensational new sire Stay Inside and out of Cause to Burn “star” mare Cause for Encore poked along for a while then worked seven furlongs in 1:23.56, just out of the top five recorded works ever. I fainted then I insured.
All Weather Router: This division galloped pretty strong with five wows. But none working very fast. Bella Trattoria’s latest daughter by West worked 1:00 flat, the fastest initial workout by any of her babies. Another Dumbledore slowpoke but this daughter is from a turfy West mare w/ Lucifer bloodlines.
Turf Sprinter: Got to be Naughty Kitty who’s out of Lanarkshire’s daughter Naughty Knickers and by Cat of Two Storms. She’s two for two so far ready to try stakes.
Turf miler: Not a big division but Francka a daughter of Frankel and the stakes mare Acapulco Miss (who produced a stakes winner in Fanny Kemble) was one of two in this crop to run 46.96.
Dirt Miler: Pretty strong with three “wows” this time. Blue Jeans Queen a daughter of King of Kindness and Blue Jeans Baby which makes her a half sister to stakes winner Blue Jean Bucks worked 45.68 and hopes to join her half sister and Princess Grace in stakes competition.
All Weather Miler: Glimmer of Ice’s first daughter who’s by International Team has won a stakes already.
Turf Router: Lady Mulan who’s by Tattered and out of Mirka (by Sword Bearer) was my first “scary good” TB and overall. She just won her first stakes.
Dirt Router: Not much in this division to report. Even the wows are claimers.
All Weather Router: A trio of mares currently led by La Bella Magica (Magician x La Belle Dame (Chretiens)) have all won in stakes competion and three other “winged” sophomore runners have placed at that level.
